a normal person: look at these luddites burning masks

me, crawling out from under the rock where i live: luddites were not opposed to technology but to the bosses using it to inflict poverty

This story is very strange. People pretend that their Instagram posts are sponsored because being a paid shill is high status in the Instagram world. And “brands” are confused about who they are sponsoring and don’t love the non-official “influencers” because their pictures are a bit shit. Clearly I don’t understand the modern world. theatlantic.com/technology/arc

What's the argument here? That Labor needs complete quiet in order to play its inscrutable 4D chess game against the govt?

homelessness

@stib homelessness is like cancer. We haven't cured cancer because it's a descriptive term for multiple distinct biological diseases with no single cure. I deal with guys who are just out of prison with no support network, women escaping partner violence, addicts, trans people who've fallen through the cracks, it's multiple discreet issues with no single solution.

homelessness

@stib I dunno what government could do, it'd be nice if the orgs that run these places could have support for simple stuff like maintenance though. Kinda sick of showing up for a shift with a backpack full of light bulbs.

Why do stoners always cut the piece for their bongs right out of the middle of the hose?
FFS you numnuts, just take it from the end and I won't even mind. Now instead of one useful hose I have two useless hoselets

You know how little kids run up to hug their mum or dad? It occurs to me there’s at some point, a last time they do that. And probably nobody realises that was the last time when it happens.

Homeless people consider data to be one of the most precious things. They know exactly to the kilobyte how much they can spend on keeping in contact, looking for accomodation, meeting welfare requirements etc. when she realised she could Facetime her sister for her birthday because I brought wifi she cried and that'll rip your heart directly out your chest.

It is my God damned constitutional right to have the creation of federal courts and a location for the capital*

*sorry I am Australian our constitution only does really basic stuff like set up the country and it has no sweeping inspirational powers or grants of human rights it's just all this stuff. Finance, trade, the states...

Thinking about the reverse time functions of git and undo, like that we really are implementing a sort of undo function for life, and when we move to digital forms via the singularity you will effectively be able to cherry pick, and revert changes, it would enable an experence something akin to morty's mindblowers. imagine that...

I always wanted to a have a front row seat for a major public event. Ironically it has turned out to be the US Mid Term Elections. I have heard people say things I’d never thought possible. It’s like roadkill. I cannot stand it, and cannot look away either. #Bemused #AussieInFlorida #PlanetAmerica

Why does our internet always slow to a crawl when it rains? Is it water getting into the wires? Serious question

My Melbourne cup tip: odds-on there's a 4WD full of bedraggled punters floating around in the York Street underpass in South Melbourne right now.

Today's Victorian public holiday proudly brought to you by Animal Cruelty Inc and Problem Gambling dot com.

Went to Camel's Hump with new rope today but it was completely crowded. Still got some climbs in on a random cliff face that wasn't in the guide book. And it got the girls off their phones and into the bush for a bit.
