I never expected to do anything but share snippets of poetry on Mastodon, and occasionally engage with fun, smart, and talented individuals I've met here since occasionally dropping by over the past 4 years on another instance. Eventually maybe share photos of my crafting and beautiful surroundings.
I never imagined I would start following politics as closely as I have been recently. It always seemed like some abstract process, removed from me other than at election time.
I was too busy trying to keep myself above water. The best part about going to uni has been coming to understand the reality of structural disadvantage: I like to think I have choices, the reality is that my options are limited by systems designed to favour the wealthy. So I go to uni to learn how to dismantle the machine.
It's been a startling thing to realise I have much to say on public policy these days. I've been wondering how to present myself here - what to excise and what to showcase. I didn't know how to address the constant state of inadequacy that comes from being told I am not important, not eligible, not worthy, that I can't compete.
So what keeps me going? I know that I am capable and intelligent. I believe that people are waking up, becoming angry, demanding change. Mostly, day-to-day, I shoot for making my friends laugh, and providing a loving home to my children.
So hello, this is an #introduction of sorts, and here are some tags:

Not going to lie, I’m fairly envious of @KnittingRob’s next level knitting skills. May have just been ogling all the glorious things to keep hands warm!
And finished so quickly!
In other news, I have found my long-unfinished Reyna, and it’s coming with me to the new house.
Why good morning.
Don't forget if you have some research that you would like to present at the fediverse's own conference
You can submit your presentation here!
I work at a ccTLD (.IS), and lately we are seeing a *lot* of new accounts immediately registering multiple domains that all had been registered in the past. I suspect we're not the only ccTLD that sees this.
We know of at least two instances of this being used to take over social media accounts that had e-mails in expired domains set as backup e-mail addresses.
This seems to be organized and well-resourced.
Please double-check you don't use e-mails in any expired domains anywhere.
#microsoft nerds
So I upgraded this laptops internal ssd to a TB drive and it runs #redhat by default.
I put the old m2 ssd in this external drive to try and boot off it when I need to use windows.
Can windows 10 even do this? It’s a fully patched and updated install. Bsod :(
Today I realised “The Castle” is well and truly a grownup film - released in 1997, it is 25 years old! #TIL
Nereid gloves for #MerMay! I'm so pleased that the mirrored lace pattern turned out okay on the second glove, phew!
He's trying to hide his excitement for the official pixelfed mobile app!
If you'd like to participate in our mobile app alpha, make sure you follow this account and boost this post.
We'll be inviting a few people at random (that follow us and boosted this post) to test out the app before anyone else! #pixelfed #pixelfedMobile
gambling, Auspol, democracy sausages shock
I think I can safely attribute the flutter to @Svegress - which resulted from a mention that an election is a thing you can bet on.
gambling, Auspol, democracy sausages shock
So today, I put my money where my mouth is and bet on the election. Yes, really.
I went into the poll knowing how I was going to vote in the senate. This has never happened before. I also went into the poll actually having met a couple of senate candidates. This has also never happened before. I was confident in my house of reps vote for 1 & 2, but holy wow was it a fight for who I should put last.
Shockingly, there was not a democracy sausage or baked good in sight at either primary school I attended. (I went to the second primary school to vote in search of cake after the first one failed to deliver.)
I’m making the big call. #AlbumBowl 1994: Portishead’s “Dummy”.
a reminder that the vaccine alone is not enough. my partner is triple jabbed, and might have just caught covid a second time post jabs AND they always wear masks and such. as well as that, there are so many things that covid makes worse. higher rate of heart attacks, stuff like that.
the vaccine alone is not enough, for your safety or anyone elses.
small electronics help wanted
i'm making a prototype weight-sensing device with load cells i've harvested out of a home bathroom scale, and they're giving me very erratic readings! as soon as i power up the device, the weight readout steadily starts to drop by about a pound every 2-3 seconds.
can anyone help troubleshoot? some more details in a thread.
(boosts okay)
Writer, student, advocate, parent. Pencils and/or crochet hooks in hair. Beginner spinner and wannabe weaver. I also like tools and electronics, and enjoy the satisfaction that comes from fixing things. I find it challenging to pick apart and prioritise the bits of myself to put in pithy descriptions.
Currently homeless. Lucky enough to be on Menang Noongar Boodjar <3 I am grateful to the Elders I've met who've made me feel welcome, and to the past Elders for their custodianship.
