Another #PrideMonth reminder. As I mentioned earlier, it's important that we don't use gay as a stand in for the whole queer community represented by pride.

There's another side to that coin though. It's important that we don't use straight to mean "not part of the queer community"

There are straight intersex folks, straight trans folks, queer people in straight passing relationships etc, all of whom see the messaging that others them from their community. Let's aim for inclusion

The Thing in question

I changed my bed linens, remade my bed, and hung out a load of laundry.

Your Thing, if any, might be different. This is totally fine. ☺️

Hey fediverse, I have an announcement to make:

I did The Thing.

It was not a big Thing, but it felt like a big Thing, and I'd been putting The Thing off.
But now The Thing is done.
I'll have to do The Thing again sometime, but for now, The Thing is done.

Have any of you managed to do The Thing recently? It's OK if you haven't; sometimes it feels hard to start doing The Thing.

Either way, I'm proud of you. I'm sure that if it's important enough, you'll manage to do The Thing eventually. 💜

I didn't even get the memo on #ProtonMail snitching on activists.

Apparently they even collect browser fingerprints – How does that make sense as a "privacy-centric" service, again? :thaenkin:

On this, the first day of Pride Month,

If you know of jobs, share them. If you think you can talk your work into creating a job for an LGBT person you know, give it a shot. If you can talk up a queer person for a position, please do so.

It's one of the most vital means of LGBTQIA+ support right now. Thank you to those who are doing this.

Just for size reference.. The Dragon is sitting on our full size leather loveseat!! 🤯🤯😁😁 Had to use a washing machine box to ship it freight to the customer!! 🤯🤯 It ended up 8 feet long, with 5.5 feet wide wings! Weighed 30 pounds! Literally 7.1 Miles of yarn! #Crochet #Crocheted #fiberarts @fiberarts

I know WINE is well-tested and great software but it still feels like magic to run an application for one operating system on a completely different one.

There are a lot of younger people here on the fediverse. Some advice: no matter what anyone says, your 20s are, without a doubt, a time when your age starts with 2.

Now I'm in my late 30s and have some distance on my 20s. I can tell you that your age starting with 3 is something you're going to have to wait to experience until your 30s, with the obvious exception of when you were 3.

My older friends and loved ones assure me that my 40s are going to be a time of a 4 in the tens digit of my age.

Boosts appreciated. For people interested in #FOSS and #linux, what communication platform do you like most?

Nice! Self-hosted #maps

"Over the past week I built a project to let people self-host an entire maps stack so they don't have to send data to the big G. Right now it includes a base map, geocoder and directions server. Currently only bicycle directions are supported, and I'm only hosting tiles for Seattle because I'm unemployed and can't afford to host data for the whole planet. Check it out!"

swears, linkedin

Get fucked LinkedIn; you clearly have no idea what's going on with my career.

Hey Fediverse - the world can be a pretty shitty place sometimes.

One of the few things that was good about Twitter was @asherwolf 's "Best Thing Of The Day" posts.

Talking to Asher, she's encouraged me to take up the practice directly. So I've been following through here and elsewhere.

I encourage you all to also take up the practice either by asking yourself the question "What was the best thing about today?" once a day and posting under or following @bestthingsbot to reflect on the best part of your day. It's only got 73 followers and few replies and I think collectively we can do better.

I realise not every day IS a good day and even posts like "a comfortable bed when I got home" is still fine too. It's LITERALLY the thought that counts here.

It's a simple ""Antidote to dissatisfaction" practice that has real world positive benefits with scientific backing (See Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell
- )

I have started doing this yesterday here:

Where I am, the day is just getting started, I'll bump this later tonight.

I know when I first started this, just even contemplating this felt like a smack in the face to my brain, so I'll get it in early so the thoughts there for later tonight.

Or post now if you're global!

Is redirecting all Go-related traffic through a proxy, presumably with the added benefit of being able to inspect it, Go-ogling?

Jelly bean plant update: it's growing really well and I think I should probably try to find a larger pot and some more soil for the poor thing before it gets really cramped in there!
