My NBN is good tonight, you?
Tethered to Optus 4G, average round trip of 138ms, STILL with drop-outs. I suspect issues at the local exchange.
@grumpysmiffy compared with the ADSL link:
--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---
18 packets transmitted, 18 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev = 29.218/30.050/31.339/0.466 ms
@dadegroot Apart from the lengthy (weeks) outages towards the end, our ADSL wasn't too bad. Just that Telstra wouldn't prioritise fixes due to the NBN uptake (so I am told) so, when it breaks, it stays broken.
@grumpysmiffy ours maxes out at 4.5mbps but is mostly around 3. Uploads are the killer though at 0.8.
We’re not-so-patiently waiting for Starlink.
@dadegroot Currently 19Mbps down (wireless capped at 25 by ISP and 4.7 up. ADSL used to be 10 down, 1 up.
If I want anything fast, like Apple OS updates, I just tether to 4G, where I just got 201Mbps down, 31.6 up. If it weren't for the data allowance (infinite) and static IP address, I'd probably have gone for a 4G router.
@grumpysmiffy alas, no mobile signal at home, so that option isn’t available to us. :-(
@grumpysmiffy Mine's a wee bit better than yours this morning (but still shite)
