Any accounts out there with more followers than @Mastodon (606K) that you know of??
This shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone here, but:
Shopping on woolworths.com.au? If you use a browser extension that blocks facebook (like I do - using Firefox which has it by default) then the site does not work at all -- search for an item, and it just spins and nothing happens. Allow facebook access to your browsing on woolworths.com.au so they can track you across the web, and suddenly everything on woolworths.com.au starts working again. (With Firefox you can use a "Facebook container" which allows facebook to track you only on that site and no others -- still not happy about it!)
They are tracking you far and wide across the web, watching your shopping habits even when you aren't logged in to facebook at all. It should be illegal, but they have very deep pockets to donate to governments all over the world.
#DeleteFacebook <- this means delete the entire company and codebase from existence, not the FB app, but do that too!
This is is exactly what it was like watching Revenge of the Nerds from 1984

A weird-Cold-War anecdote.
When the system of giving the President codes to launch a nuclear attack was first developed, there was a lot of debate over how it should work.
One proposal was: the codes should be placed in a capsule, which would be implanted under the skin of a presidential aide.
That aide's job would be to carry a butcher knife, ready to hand to the President at any time.
If the President wanted to launch the nukes, he would have to kill a man with his own hands to do it.

This is why you should read The Guardian - an excellent take on last night's "debate" by Katharine Murphy. Her writing had me in stitches and then I realised what's at stake and felt very sad.
Recurring offer reminder: I'll help / mentor / teach / tutor / troubleshoot with anyone who wants to learn git for basic version control, collaboration, managing personal projects, or for a day job. I'll work to connect people with mentors other than me if they prefer - no need to explain why.
Same for bash, command line tools, and so on.
I want using & contributing to FS/OSS to be easier for way more people.
Boosts appreciated!!
Can anyone recommend a good NBN router for the home that does *not* have a wireless router in it?
I'm looking for a simple modem that plugs into the NBN port and then has at least one ethernet port, and that's all.
I'm thinking the Vigor130 or Billion BiPAC 8900X but both of these are pretty old chipsets.
