Now, I'm not the one being mad here, right?

I mean, you call me out of the blue, I have no fucking idea who you are, and you get upset that I'm not going to start just offering information that you have zero right to know and that could potentially undermine my negotiating position?

Fuck - and I mean this sincerely - absolutely off.

Hey so.

Yesterday I got cold-called by some random company wanting to talk to me about a job they had opening up.

They asked me what my salary expectations where, and I told them $X/year, plus super.

They then asked what I was earning currently. My response was that I was not about to disclose that. I mean, that's none of their fucking business. The only number that should matter to them is what I want.

Further, you called me.

Suffice to say, they got pretty uppity at that and hung up.

My mechanical heart is beating and I'll be tooting around 7pm (Melb/Syd time).

Today I am releasing the NPL,
The Non-Violent Public License.

Please take a look if you have been involved with recent discussions about the ethics of free-software's software's use in practice. Think of it as an AGPL but with ethical restrictions on usage (so violating "freedom" 0 but whatever).

So, folks running their own instances, advice please? I try to maintain WeRWorld on Twitter as a safe space for both hosts, and followers. Which isn't that easy given the nature of the platform, but I do maintain a block list, and disable RTs from accounts the account follows (with a few exceptions, like past hosts.)

Looks like I can go one better with @werworld, by de-federating certain instances, if I understand correctly? If so, is there a public List Of Arseholes I can start with?

Was talking about Mastodon with an old-school sysadmin guy. We reached the realization that defederating from instances with no/bad moderation is essentially the same thing as blocking open relays back when you ran your own email server: open relays always end up getting used for spam, you block 'em to protect your users.

Email was and still is the first federated social network, so it already faced a lot of the same problems; we should study its solutions (and its failures).

I'm sorry that this makes me sound so old, but I simply do not understand why people put so many cameras and microphones around themselves so willingly. Smartphones and laptops maybe aren't so much of a choice but good god why the exercise bike, the doorbell, the refrigerator, th

I'm sorry to have yet another idea, I know I have been at 11 :)

but if anybody wants to build a bot called @bestthings on i would welcome this - it toots once a day simply asking "tell us your best thing today".

Thank you to,, + others who shared valuable feedback re . We apologise unreservedly for Progress 2019 being inaccessible and not inclusive to people with disabilities. Our apology in full is here:

@Tarale @koosli @Posty @daedalus it needs to be in HMW or AA<N> format, so...

"How Might We not get our skull caved in by our wife with a frypan for waking the child and also inducing an epileptic fit due to invalid JSON"

"As a Father, I want to [not be murdered] so I can [continue enjoying being alive], so [I won't introduce an unplanned disco in the nursery]"

hot take the liberal insistence on means-testing and distaste for universal programs is because they all subconsciously realize that the stability of capitalist societies relies on someone, anyone, falling through the cracks and being poor and desperate enough to work for next to nothing

I need a holiday. @Tarale says that "I'm always at 11" and look she's not wrong, need to unplug a bit. will be doing that soon.

[EXCLUSIVE] A source inside one of the more popular fediverse projects has said they are considering domain blocking Gab.

A number of projects have done that recently including Tusky and Pixelfed.
